Answered Live in the Webinar

The below questions were answered live during the webinar. Responses can be seen in the recording of the webinar here

Q: I'm interested in any & all info presented today. But specifically looking for resources for a student who has experienced a recent suicide in the family. She attended a Zoom meeting for a grief group but there were 15 participants & she concluded that size was unwieldy. Thank you.

Q: My son has extreme social anxiety. I’m stuck between wanting to help him yet not enabling codependency. My student’s father is 8 years post diagnosis of early onset dementia and near the end of his life. STRESS! Covid and our family situation have exacerbated our son’s anxiety. I’ve tried to get him to contact CAPS. I don’t know if he has. I fear that he just suffers on his own, largely alone. Please share any ideas on how to help.

Q: How long does it take to get an appointment with CAPS? I have heard it takes a while.

Q: Your services are great. How do you reach a student who doesn't’t have the capacity to make that first step to get help?

Q: How many sessions are considered brief/time limited therapy?

Q: How frequently are the children taken through this service’s program. If it’s only at the beginning of the year, some children might not remember that there is help.

Q: I had to step away for a few minutes, so I am sorry if this was already addressed. Do you have any advice as to how to convince my student to use CAPS services? Student has always been high anxiety and have never been able to get her to see a therapist. She is a 4.0 student, and struggling with a couple of classes this year. Would just like to get some helpful hints to her for how to handle her stress and anxiety.

Q: Is CAPS available for parents? I get a lot of phone calls and texts. I get things taken out on me. It affects my day and my work. So, I want her to get help not just for herself, but for me.  She gets insulted if I suggest she seek help elsewhere. Not really a question here, but a comment.

Q: My son has a roommate from Jordan, also shy and overwhelmed. They just coexist.

Q: I love the "check-in" list! I assume yes, but is there a little action card available to students with those general self-assessment questions? Or maybe a little image or pdf we could text to our students so they don’t feel like we're grilling them? :)
